Many drivers in the UAE face disruptions on the roads, often in the form of traffic accidents. While we hope to avoid them, accidents can occur due to various circumstances. It's important to know the correct steps and procedures to follow when involved in a traffic accident in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi. This helps to avoid legal errors and facilitates dealing with insurance and obtaining necessary reports.

1. Contact the Police

If you're involved in a traffic accident, call the police at 999. Provide them with details of the accident, the number of vehicles involved, and whether there are any injuries after checking on the individuals involved. Follow the instructions given to you.

2. Reporting via the Dubai Police App

For minor accidents with no injuries and minor damages, you can report them through the Dubai Police app (App store /Google play) or the DubaiNow platform. Follow these steps:

  • Specify the accident location and the number of vehicles involved.

  • Provide your details and those of the other party, including vehicle plate numbers and insurance details.

  • Take clear photos of the vehicle damages and the accident scene.

  • Submit the report, and you'll receive an official copy of the accident report later.

3. Move Your Vehicle to a Safer Area

Turn on your hazard lights to alert other drivers on the road about the accident. Try to move the vehicle to a safe place on the side of the road if the accident is minor. If your vehicle is no longer drivable due to the accident, it's important to move away from it and wait in a safe location until the police arrive.

Role of the Police

The police will manage traffic flow and gather necessary information from all parties involved. You should present your driver's license, vehicle ownership, Emirates ID, or passport. The police will investigate and determine liability. Obtain the accident report issued by the police, as it's an important document for insurance procedures.
