Once the claim is approved, your insurer will pay the workshop or agency directly for the cost of fixing your vehicle. However, if the cost of repairing the damage to your car is greater than the value of your car (this is called a total loss), your insurance company will send you the full value of your car as of the time of the accident once you’ve paid the excess. If you are in an accident that wasn’t your fault, with another insured driver, you won’t be charged an excess at all.
