Starting February 3, pet owners in Abu Dhabi must register their microchipped cats and dogs under a new animal ownership system, the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) announced. Individual pet owners have been given a generous one-year grace period to complete their registrations without penalties, but establishments that own pets need to act faster, as they only have six months to comply.
Registration is free for now, and you’ll be able to register your pets by visiting a veterinary clinic. The vet will then register your pet through the DMT portal, and you'll receive confirmation once the process is complete. Businesses will also have the option to register animals and transfer ownership conveniently.
This new initiative aims to create a unified database linking pets to their owners, and it comes with several benefits, like:
-
Promoting animal welfare
-
Helping to control the stray animal population
-
Keeping track of pet health records
-
Enabling better identification of owner history.
How to Register Your Pet:
1. Visit your vet:
-
The first step is to schedule an appointment with your veterinarian.
-
The vet will examine your pet to ensure they meet the registration requirements (e.g., microchipped).
2. The vet uploads your pet's registration to DMT services:
-
The vet logs into the DMT (Department of Municipalities and Transport) portal.
-
They upload your pet’s registration details, including your information, your pet's details, and any required documentation.
-
The DMT system validates the registration details and triggers the next step.
3. You're notified to confirm your pet's registration:
-
You will receive a notification from DMT to confirm your pet's registration.
-
The notification will include instructions and a link to the TAMM App.
4. Confirm the registration in the TAMM app:
-
Open the TAMM App and log in using your UAE Pass or TAMM credentials.
-
The app displays the uploaded pet registration details for your review.
-
Review and confirm the registration by submitting the confirmation request.
5. Receive confirmation from TAMM:
-
You'll receive a notification confirming the registration completion.
-
You'll also receive an email with registration details and any required documentation (e.g., registration certificate).
On top of this, the programme encourages good pet health practices, such as microchipping, vaccinations, and regular vet visits.
